 Hi sweet friends!

Glory to God in the Highest!

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas today. Nothing like spending time with family and sharing laughs and memories with each other.

I received this ornament from a sweet friend and thought it was fitting for today🙏🏻

We are a blessed people. I get a little overwhelmed by it sometimes. About how much God loves us.

I have been thinking these past few days of past Christmases. Some great and some without the presence of loved ones. Even through this rough year God has been present with each of us. This Christmas looks a lot different than any one I can remember but I still believe God is working. Through all this uncertainty I can still depend on Him.

God sent His Son for us. For ALL of us. In good times and in difficult times. He is so faithful. There is not one thing that we feel, think or do that is not seen by Him. He will use it all to His glory if we let Him. I and praise Him for that He has done and will continue to do. Until we see Him again and we will for those who believe, I will praise His name!!!

As always, thank you all so much for your support of my LimeLife by Alcone business and this blog! I appreciate it more than you will ever know. Please subscribe to the email listing so you do not miss a post.

Love and Blessings!

It's the Holiday Season

 Happy December 1st, ladies!!!

2020 is coming to an end. How excited are we about that?? I am thankful for this year, though. I have learned a lot about myself. As I am sure you all have as well.

I did take time to take advantage of the Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday and Cyber Monday sales. Just about finished my shopping for the family. All but the stockings. Yes, my children are grown and they STILL get stockings and Santa Claus. LOL...I know but I so enjoy doing it. Its tradition. Hopefully they get married and have children they will pass it on to their children.

Since we are officially in the holiday season now lets not forget those who are  sick, home bound, lonely; you know, those "less fortunate". I am sure we all know someone that could use some extra love this season. Especially since Covid has kept most of us isolated. Sending a card of hope and encouragement has a way of doing that. I love to still receive mail. There is something very special and personal about receiving a letter the old fashion way.

We tend to put a lot of emphases on preparing a gift or even a card. It has to be package just right, say just the right words, the prefect quote or scripture verse. We forget the reason we started to do the gifting in the first place. That's just like us though as humans. It has to be the greatest, the grandest, PREFECT. Most of us aren't looking perfect, just authentic. The real thing. A gift or card given out of love means everything.

So if you are impressed to do something this season for someone, do it don't wait. You may not get that change again and it just may change that's person's life.

Later this week I will be sharing some deals I got at a local boutique. They have EVERYTHING you need for Christmas gifts. Also, I'm leaving to go on a mountain getaway with some family so I super excited about that.

Thanks for stopping by. Don't for get to leave a comment, question or suggestion. Subscribe to the email list so you don't miss a post.

Changes, Changes and More Changes

Well, Hello ladies!

Yes...I know it has been a while since I posted on my blog. Honestly, I just didn't have it in me. With so much going on and I know everyone does, it really was not in me to do it.

The next few statements I am going to make are as political as I am going to get on here. First and last time. I say that because it was a direct effect of why I was not blogging.

I have always enjoyed the elections, local and national. I would always, ALWAYS sit with my daddy in front of the TV and watch all the debates, commercials, documentaries, all the things. I loved this time with daddy.  Daddy was an Army veteran, serving three tours in Korea. He never talked about the war or his time in the Army, but I know he loved his country and the things that are happening now....well I can see him just shaking his head.

This election, this election....we all have views on all the subjects; we always have that's what makes this country so great. Its ok to be different. Well something changed this time though. I am not opposed to have discussion about different topics and having an open mind about things. This is part of the reason I loved watching politics with Daddy. Now we are just hollering at each other. Everyone wants to be right and not necessarily better. It is breaking my heart.

My kids and I are close, super close. For a while it was just us three. I taught them to have their own minds, make there own decisions. As long those didn't hurt them or others, was beneficial to them and to stand up for what is right. People are to be treated just as that, people. They have grown into two of the most beautiful people I have ever known. The are active citizens of their communities, hard working, paying their own way and volunteering when they can.

This election has been the hardest to watch and talk about with my kids. Because we all have different opinions and it was effecting me so bad that the day before the Presidential election I stopped watching all TV or listening to any media of any kind. To me, just my opinion; it hit me like a ton of bricks. I let the media, all of it directly effect my thinking. Instead of researching and reading articles for myself, as I was taught by my daddy; I let the media do it for me. AND I LET IT HAPPEN!! So the night of the election I prayed and went to bed at 7:30. Slept the best I have in a while.

I had to remember that whatever President is in office, my God is on His Throne. In the end this place is just temporary. We are called to love, support and "do right" by people. As my daughter says, "just be a good human". Like I said, this is the first and last political post I will put up here (hopefully).

We can all do better, ALL of us including me.

In other news..... I went to the hair salon this past Friday and got a new do. And I am LOVING it. (see below) Thank you Jennifer Lynch at utlimate raaz

Remember ladies, sometimes change isn't so bad. It's the fear of the unknown that makes us worry. God sees everything and it is not unnoticed. He has got this and you, too.

Have a great week. Please leave a comment or suggestion for a post.

Blessings,

Well Hello

Well Hello friends! Its been a little while since my last post. Hope everyone is doing well. The weather has turned a tad bit cooler here in Eastern NC and I am so thankful for that. The humidity can get a bit much. Earlier last week I thought I was going to have to cut the air with a knife to get to my car, the humidity was so thick, lol.

Anyway, I took a few weeks off because I was tired. Just plan and simple. Tired. I thought when the children got grown and gone I could rest. WRONG! At times I tend to take on too much, most like women. Keep in touch with family and friends, church, work, then you have the things on the side. Up to date with current events and tends; this blog, exercise, LimeLife. So I had to take a step back. I have triggers that tend to get me worked up; I have come to recognize them now. When I do not spend enough time in the Word and spend my focus on other things...let's just say the outcome isn't good, lol.

So I took some time to refocus and reconnect and that's ok. We don't have to be everything to everybody. And yes, I'm preaching to the choir!

I said all that to say I'm sharing with you one of my birthday gifts I received from my son. My birthday was in July. A sweet friend of his HAND painted this sign. She has so much talent. It's my life verse. Proverbs 31.25 "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she will laugh in the days ahead". I hold onto this promise everyday. Every. Single. Day.

There was a time not very long ago that I struggled with both of these things. I had no strength or any dignity. I took me a long long time to get out of that hole I was in. Some of it was my own doing some not. When I decided to finally take God at His Word, that He forgave me so I could forgive myself too. I had access to His promises and God gave me strength and dignity.  God gave them to me to wear. Wear everywhere, everywhere I go. Not just some places. EVERYWHERE!

See its like this, until we see what God sees in us. That we are worthy and loved and have a purpose, we will continue to try and find things; whatever those things may be, to fill what only God can fill. We were made by Him for Him. Do I still have days where I struggle?? OF COURSE, I just don't stay as long. That strength and dignity, God promised them to me and He said I will laugh. If He said it I'm going to believe it. Girlfriend, there were a lot of days, months, years I didn't even crack a smile. Oh the joy I have now. Its not easy, nothing worth having is. I wouldn't trade it though. That past made me who I am and God doesn't waste a single thing. Anything you want to keep you will fight for. And girl, I'm gonna to hold onto to Jesus and His promises with everything I got.

Get in a good Bible believing, Bible teaching church. Find a good Godly mentor, someone that doesn't mind stepping on your toes and telling you the truth. Read the Word, stay in the Word and read it again. It's the ONLY thing that saved this mind right here. That I know for a fact!

I hope this encouraged ya'll today. This has been on my heart and I had to share. I learned that when God asks you to so something, you need to do it.

Thanks for stopping by. Leave a comment or simple hi.

Blessings,

Dawn

Just Out Walking

Good afternoon ladies! Well we are just about through with July! It will be Christmas before long.

I don't have much this week. Its been a little crazy around here. My schedule has been thrown off a bit and I am a creature of habit. Plus, it takes me a minute to adjust and I will admit it, I don't like it. I wish I were one of those people that could adjust with no problem and fly by the "seat of my pants." but that's not me.

I do want to talk to you today about different walks. Not the kind you take in the afternoon or early mornings, but our life walks. What they look like and what they may represent. I have been struggling to be honest, lately with my walk and what it is supposed to look like. Especially at this stage in my life. It may just be the COVID struggle that has me feeling some kind of crazy. Anyway, what I want to say is this...
Not everyone's walk is the same. Even though we may have similar backgrounds, come from the same family, raised by the same people. We will all have different walks, depending on the choices we make. Like the dress I have on in this picture. I "stole" this dress; as my daughter would like to say, a few years ago while we were out shopping. This is a Nine West dress, not too awful expensive, but kind of pricey. I think the retail was something like $129. Ya'll I got this baby for $5!! That's right!! FIVE DOLLARS BILLS!!  Belk's was having some crazy sell and I snatched it. No matter if it didn't fit. I was not gonna let this by. I got home with it and took the dress to have alterations done so it would fit. I still do not have a lot of money in the dress. It was worth every cent.

What I am trying to say is this. My daughter could have bought the same dress and it fit perfectly. But we are two different people so that is not going to happen for us both. Same as our personal walks in life. My walk is not going to look like someone else. Some walks require more time on the path. At times, if I'm truly honest with myself, I get caught up in other women's walk; especially on social media. But ya'll, that stuff isn't always real, they have real problems and heartache too. So I have to put it down for a while and come back. We have some much wanting our attention it is so easy to forget our reason for being where we are.

God put us where we are with who we are with to be who He made us to be. So just because something looks just right, doesn't mean it was always right. We don't see the behind the scenes, the work and prayer that went into that "dress". Girlfriend, lets remember that when we are struggling with our "dress" someone  else is too. Its not all pretty pictures and flowers. Sometimes its weeds, holey jeans, and snotty t-shirts. We are here for such a short time on this scared earth. Enjoy the snotty t-shirts and the behind the scenes action. It made (or making) us who we are.

Getting That Perfect Glow

Good afternoon ladies!

Hope you all had a great Monday. They come really fast, the weekends just fly by.

Terry and I went shopping this Saturday, well I went shopping, Terry walked. Anyway, went to downtown Goldsboro. The community started a few years ago to bring some businesses back there and updated a lot of the buildings with art, structures and just some funky little places to eat and shop. We had fun; even if it was so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. If you live in or close by a downtown area, I encourage you to visit there. You will always find something you will not see in your corporate locations. Plus, you will be giving back to the community and I am all about that.

Today we are going to talk about self tanner and a few LimeLife by Alcone products I use to help keep that glow. I have used a number of self tanners; from Fake 'n Bake to Jergens. Although some are good I always go back to MineTan. I get it from Amazon. I wish they sold it locally but that's not the case. I was introduced to it by another blogger, Cyndi Spivey.Cyndi It has an express formula so it develops quickly, which a major plus for me and this formula does NOT stain my sheets.

MineTan has a few different shades. I use the Super Dark Coconut. There have Olive, Coffee, Moroccan, Violet, Caramel, Mink; even a workout formula so you do not sweat off your tan. Minetan Like I said the formula is a dark foam so you will be able to see where the tanner is going. You can leave it on up to 3 hours. No need in leaving longer because that's as dark as you get. Step in the shower and rinse off and wa la, you have a beautiful tan from the comfort of your own home. I am as pale as a ghost and this does not turn me orange! That's the magical part about it. I also do a few things so I don't get patchy when the tanner starts to fade.

On my "tanning" day; which is usually Saturday; I use a body scrub called Bamboo Renew from LimeLife by Alcone. Its a fine body scrub that has bamboo and lemongrass in it. Its very important to exfoliate before you tan. The scrub suds up so I exfoliate with that, I also shave. When I towel off I DO NOT apply lotion on my body. I DO apply lotion only to my elbows, knees, wrists and around my ankles. ( Basically the rougher places.) This keeps the tanner from "grabbing" to your skin. I use a tanning mitt, makeup face brush along with gloves to apply the tanner. I start with my legs and work in an upward circular motions. I do this on my legs, torso, arms and back. I save my hands and feet for last. This where the brush comes in. I use the brush to buff the tanner on. To me it gives a more natural look. MineTan is safe to use on your face, but I wash and exfoliate my face so much, its pointless to do that. So I use a darker foundation to match my face to my neck. This tan will last about 4-5 days.

The face mask I use is Skin Polish by LimeLife by Alcone. I love it. It smells wonderfully clean. Skin Polish is a lemon and Jojoba Bead face mask. I use this product twice a week. I cannot say enough good things about it.This mask is not gritty as some of the store bought brands are. Skin Polish has done an amazing job of renewing the texture of my skin. You can visit my website and discover both of these products and more. my website

So these are the products I use to keep my tan all year long. I have not visited a tanning bed in almost 4 years. The last time I went was in 2016 when Terry and I went to Aruba. Tanning beds are not good at all for your skin or your health. I know there are bunch of people who love them, I was one. But the way cancer runs in my family; I will pass.

I hope this helped you out. Leave me comments, questions or suggestions below, sometimes I need help on what to talk about, lol.

As always, THANK YOU for stopping by and saying "HI". I really appreciate it. Have a good week.

Blessings,

Dawn

Friday's Recipe

Hi friend!! We made it another week!!!

I don't know about y'all but it has been HOT here in Eastern NC! The dog days of summer are here sweet friends!

I will be pretty quick today. I have a busy afternoon. Got to get my workout in, dinner with the family tonight and back home to work on my LimeLife by Alcone packages. That's one of my favorite things to do. Putting my customers packages together. Giving them a personal touch, they appreciate it and I'm so thankful for them!

Today I am sharing another side dish with you all. I made Pasta Salad the other night and put a little bit of my spin on it. Usually when I think of Pasta Salad its my mama's macaroni salad with elbow noodles and tons of bell pepper and mayo. This is not that for sure. This Pasta Salad is colorful and light. My favorite, yum! You can serve this with any main course you like. Terry grilled salmon for us. (the recipe is below)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend spent with your loved ones. Praying all this sickness goes away, not just COVID19  but this sickness of spirit and mind. We had to stay prayed up people.

As always, thanks for stopping by! Please leave a comment below, share or subscribe to the email listing so you don't miss a post.

I love you all!

Blessings,

Dawn

New Find Monday

Hello Monday!!! Hope your day has gone well.

I just got through working out and decided I would drop in and share this dress I found at a boutique I have featured here before. The dress is from McLamb Design and Co. They were in Clinton, NC but are moving to Mt. Olive and let me tell you; I'm excited about it! They will be carrying all sorts of things. Hats, accessories, jewelry, shoes, a men's line. All manner of things!

Anyway back to the dress...

The dress is a size small, brand is BomBom and made in the USA.  Which I like that part a lot. I am more aware of where things are made now. I want to support our country. It has pockets and you know I love pockets; fits TTS. You cannot tell in the pictures but I paired the dress with LimeLight corked wedges in taupe. I'm sure you can dress up or dress down this little dress anyway you would like. It would look super cute with some plain white tennis shoes; like Adidas or Converses. Of course, flats or gladiator sandals would work as well.

A long statement necklace would look nice with this dress. I choose to just simple silver hoops to wear. You cannot see them because of my big hair. But you know how us southern women like our big hair. I personally would not wear a lot of jewelry with this particular dress. I like the bright color of it and it is perfect for summer. I think over accessorizing will take away from it. Thin enough to be light and flowy, but also enough to feel covered.

I have had this piece awhile so I really don't know if they had other colors. I'm almost positive they did. Maybe in a different style. I just love this dress. I worn it a few times and finally got around to taking some pictures in it this weekend.

McLamb Design & Co. hope to open within the next few weeks. I think they are aiming for the first week of August. You can find them on Facebook and IG. www.mclanddesignco.com is the website. Go check them out, I know you find something you like.

Just a Thought

Forgiveness. That one word says so much to me. Our pastor was speaking about it this past Sunday. He actually stepped on my toes. I know how it is to want forgiveness and to give forgiveness. It's HARD both ways. Pastor said, "God loves the one that hurt you just AS MUCH, just as much as He loves you" Yep, that was hard to swallow, but its the truth. We need to hear  the truth especially in the times we are living in now. So if God can forgive why is it so hard for us??? I wanted to share that with you. It really spoke to me in church. God just didn't love me just to forgive me, He loves us all. To show His love, as we are called to, we HAVE to forgive others that have hurt us. In the end it sets us free from any bitterness. To turn it loose to Him that holds it all anyway.....what have we got to lose??? Healing??? Yes, I have some work to do.

Thanks for stopping by today. As always, let me know you were here. Leave a comment, suggestion or subscribe to the email so you don't miss a post:)

Catching Up

Hello ladies!!

I hope you all had a good day. It was a busy day for me. I worked my regular job, got my workout in, fed the cats, you get the point, lol!

Its been a little while since I have posted anything on the blog. We had a few things going on. Just like everyone. My daughter was moving. Son's truck was damaged. Death in the family. Just first one thing then another. Life, its full of surprises that is for sure.

Today I want to share with you a recipe that I found on Pinterest. My husband and I have been trying to eliminate carbs in our diet and its been a little difficult. I love  ALL the carbs. Pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, PASTA. Anyway, I found this recipe for spaghetti squash and decided to try it out. It's "Terry Approved" so I know you will like it. Terry doesn't like change; so for him to approve of this really says something.

On to the recipe.

I used a normal size spaghetti squash. Washed, patted dry and cut in half. I scooped all the seeds and middle out. Brushed on EVOO and seasoned with salt and pepper. I laid the squash cut side down on a lined baking sheet for easy clean up. Baked on 375 for about 45 minutes. While that was baking I cut up half an onion and sauteed it a pan with garlic and butter.

Once baked I took a fork and scooped out the flesh of the squash and left the shell. I added greek yogurt, butter, cheddar cheese, onion and an Italian seasoning to the squashed. Mixed well and placed mixture back into the shells. Topped with more cheddar cheese and placed back in oven under broil until golden bubbly.

It reminds me of a twice baked potato. I served it along side of turkey burgers and mixed salad. Something light for these hot summer nights.

Below are the measurements and pictures of the dish. I hope you enjoy!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to subscribe to my email list so you don't miss a post.

Blessings,

Dawn

1 medium or 1/2 large onion
1 tsp of fresh garlic
S & P to taste

Wash and dry squash. Cut lengthwise discard insides and seeds. Brush EVOO and salt and pepper. Baked cut side down on baking sheet for 45 minutes on 375 degrees.

While baking squash. Dice up onion and add garlic, place in sauté pan; be careful not to burn garlic. Stirring frequently until onion is transulcent. Set aside. Be careful when scooping out inside of squash IT IS EXTREMELY HOT! Place in bowl, add half cheese, onions and rest of ingredients. Mix well and place mixture back in shells. Top with the rest of the cheese and place back in oven. Broil until golden brown.

Back to Church

Happy Sunday!!

I'm so excited today!!! We get to go back to church!!! With restrictions of course. But we are back! Lord knows I needed to be back. I'm very thankful for the online ministries our church has offered. So thankful, but there's just something about being around believers, your church family. That's what I missed.

Church was different this morning with the restrictions. Only one way in the church and we dismissed differently to be safe, but there was one thing that was still the very same. God! He is so very faithful. Even when we are not. I will say it over and over, God is faithful. I know because I fall daily. Some days not so much but then those other days come. We all have them, especially with what is going on in our world today.

First it was the pandemic now its hate and destruction. The devil has very active, but so is God. Pastor was talking this morning about how we are called to show love. The only way to overcome darkness is light. We as believers are called to shine our light. this nation needs it now.

See this is how the devil works....if he can keeps us isolated away from anything good at all that’s  when he starts to work. We have to surround ourselves with positivity and believers that are a good influence to make this world better. Constant exposure to negativity will only bring that out in us. This is something I can talk about because this is how my mind works. I still have a tendency to be negative, but I can catch what triggers it faster now. I will share below some of the things I do to get mind back on track.

1.  Pray and stay in the Word. I do fall short some days on this. My usual excuse is that I get up so               early and I don't have extra time. But this is what has changed my thought process the most, starting in the Word.

2.  Ask people to pray for you. Now I don't mean to go around tell your business to anyone but a select trusted few people that you know are prayer warriors.

3.  Turn the news off. Do not be uniformed but too much of the same doom and gloom with have an            effect on your mental and emotional state. Do your own research; just don't take for granted that the         media or others are telling you the truth. Sometimes information is left out to get a reaction.

4.  Clean up your social media. Remove or delete anything that is not in alignment with what you believe. I do this every few months. Its like taking inventory.

5.  Find a good Bible believing Bible teaching church. If you don't have one and live around                         Wayne/Duplin/Sampson Counties, NC you are always welcome at Mt. Olive FPH Church.

Hopefully some of these tips help you. They really do for me. Maybe some of them will not work for you, the thing is find something that does. Meditation, exercise, playing music, whatever. We have to protect our minds so we can be a help to other people. Being full of hate for any reason will bring us back to where we are. I told my daughter last night. if we don't know our history; and believe me our family history is not pretty, we are bound to repeat it. It has to begin with you.

Have a great week!!

Blessings,

Dawn

Eating Clean

Hello Everyone!

I hope your week has started off great! Its finally getting warm here in Eastern NC. I am so ready for warm weather and to eat INSIDE of a restaurant. We are still in phase I of the reopening process; and I'm just going to leave that alone. There are too many opinions to name, lol. But I will say this and I promise to leave it alone. I WANT TO GO BACK TO CHURCH!!!!

Now with that out of the way....

My husband and I are trying to eat a little better. Most of my life I have eaten healthy. We grew up on a garden. We canned and froze just about all our veggies. I miss that. I don't miss the work, but those fresh veggies, oh man. My mom could make the BEST tomato juice. Now, that's something I really miss. Anyway, back to what I was saying. I am not real crazy about meats. So that's not a problem for me. Getting the protein is the problem for me. Terry, bless him; grew up on homemade cakes, meat and potatoes. Deep fry everything. So I have some trouble finding things Terry will eat.

Well last night Terry surprised me with a piece of fresh salmon. He seasoned and grilled it in aluminum foil. OH. MY. GOODNESS. It was so delicious. I sautéed whole green beans in my cast iron skillet with minced onion and garlic. A little salt and pepper to taste. I also cut up some cucumbers, grape tomatoes, and red onion. Tossed with salt and pepper and a drizzle of olive oil for a colorful side.

I will place the receipe below for you if you would like to try this meal. Its one I will do again.

Grilled Salmon

1 1/4 lb of fresh Salmon
2 tbsp. of Schneider Lemon & Pepper Seasoning
Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil (any will do)

Drizzle salmon with olive oil both sides. Sprinkle seasoning on skinless side of salmon. Wrap in aluminum foil, skin side down. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.  Place packet on grill that is around 300 degrees for abut 30 minutes or until flakey.

Sautéed Whole Green Beans

12 oz whole green beans
1 tbsp dried minced onion
1 tsp minced garlic (jarred)
salt and pepper to taste
drizzle of EVOO

You can use fresh or frozen green beans. I used frozen because that is what I had on hand. Drizzle skillet with a coating of EVOO. Heat on medium heat add green beans, dried onion, garlic and salt and pepper. Sautee until tender.

Cucumber Salad

2 small pickling cucumbers
1/2 pint of grape tomatoes
1 small onion (I used red, but whatever you have on hand will work)
EVOO
Salt and pepper to taste

Cut or chop veggies, whatever you desire. Place in medium bowl. Toss with EVOO and salt and pepper to taste.

We did not take pictures of the end result. But I assure you, it was beautiful and so so good.

Eat, enjoy and spend time with family.

Let me know what you think of the recipes. Share yours with me too. As I was saying, I want to try new things, nothing outrageous but new. I also like using whatever we typically have on hand. Less mess is motto, ha! Leave a comment or subscribe so you don't miss a post.
